By the Vietnam era the Army's efforts at prevention were well established. Employing a combined approach using pesticides, mosquito netting, and preventative doses of anti-malarial drugs the number of cases during the Vietnam War were minimal compared to previous wars. While the Army's efforts were focused on preventing and treating infection among American Soldiers, malaria's effects on the enemy were also studied closely.
