The Army Heritage Center Foundation, in cooperation with the US Army and our other partners, serves as the lead agency supporting the development and expansion of the US Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC). The Center is being developed to preserve the memories of Soldiers and their Families, honor their service, and help educate the American public about the Army's and its Soldiers contributions to the Nation.

The Foundation will, through donated support, fund and construct the public components of the Army Heritage and Education Center—the Visitor and Education Center and the Army Heritage Museum. Once the construction program is complete, the Foundation will transfer these facilities to the Army to operate and maintain as part of the Army Heritage and Education Center. The Foundation will then focus on providing support to enhance the educational programs and other activities at the AHEC where federal funds are unavailable.

The Foundation was incorporated in 1999 as the Military Heritage Foundation after Secretary of the Army Louis Caldera committed the Army to “the establishment of an Academic Research Facility and Army Museum at the United States Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.” Since its establishment, the Foundation has been the catalyst in forging the unique public-private partnership that has advanced the Center. Then, after Secretary of the Army Thomas White announced in October 2001 the creation of the Army Heritage and Education Center, the Foundation assumed the doing business as name of the Army Heritage Center Foundation. The intent of the name change was to more closely align the Foundation’s efforts to the development of the Center.

The Foundation is an IRS approved 501(c)(3) public charity and is incorporated in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. The Foundation registers to solicit charitable contributions as required by state laws and regulations.

• Public Law 107-107, The National Defense Act for Fiscal Year 2002, dated 28 December 2001, that authorized the Secretary of the Army to enter into an agreement with the Military Heritage Center Foundation for the design, construction and operation of the Army Heritage and Education Center.
• Memorandum of Understanding between the US Army and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Cumberland County, Pennsylvania and Middlesex Township, Pennsylvania and the Military Heritage Foundation, dated 5 April 2002, that established the general working agreement and formalized the intent to construct the Army Heritage and Education Center.
• Public Law 109-163, The National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2006, dated January 6, 2006, that authorized the Secretary of the Army to lease portions of the Army Heritage and Education Center to the Foundation to generate revenue for the facility and for Foundation administrative purposes.
