The Army Heritage Center Foundation is pleased to announce a new member has joined the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Ms. Heather Long was elected at the May 20, 2011 meeting of the Foundation Board of Directors. MG (Retired) Robert Scales, the Foundation Chair, commented that “The addition of Ms. Long to the Board comes at a critical moment for the Foundation. Ms. Long brings skills that the Foundation will need as we embark on a new capital campaign to build the second phase of the Visitor and Education Center and an endowment. Her leadership will enhance the Foundation’s ability to improve outreach and public knowledge of the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center campus. We are glad that she is willing to donate her time and expertise to our efforts.” Ms. Heather Long is Deputy Opinions Editor for the Patriot-News. Previously Ms. Long was a Senior Consulting Associate at Cambridge Associates in London, providing investment consulting for major endowments in the United Kingdom, Europe and the Middle East. Ms. Long is an Oxford University Rhodes Scholar, with Masters Degrees in both Financial Economics and Medieval Literature, and a graduate of Wellesley College, where she was a voting member on the Board of Trustees. Ms. Long has frequently been recognized for professional excellence, including being named to “Top 40 Under 40” list of young professionals by the Central Penn Business Journal and being recognized by the Pennsylvania Newspaper Association with the First Place Award in the Editorial and Op-ed Pages category and the Sweepstakes Award for her state budget crisis coverage. Ms. Long resides in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, and holds leadership positions with several community organizations. She is Founder and Director of the Harrisburg School District SAT Prep Program, which has tutored 120 students since 2009, and sits on the Board of the United Way of the Capital Region-Bridges Society. About the Foundation and USAHEC The Army Heritage Center Foundation continues to strive to expand the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) campus and enhance its programs. The Foundation serves as the project manager for privately funded construction projects on the campus. Currently, the Foundation is managing outfitting of the newly constructed Phase One of the Visitor and Education Center, a key component of the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center campus. The Visitor and Education Center will be the focal point for all campus educational activities and will serve as the primary point of entry into the USAHEC Campus. The Foundation’s development program seeks grants and donations to build Phase Two of the Visitor and Education Center, support construction of the Heritage Center, and create an endowment to sustain and enhance educational programs. The Foundation’s education program coordinates the National History Day in Pennsylvania competition, complements the Center’s programs and exhibits by providing teachers educational material from the USAHEC collection and is a state approved continuing education provider. The Foundation also supports and enhances the USAHEC’s public outreach by supporting marketing initiatives and serving as a public advocate of the Center’s mission and programs. USAHEC is dedicated to educating and preserving the legacy of the men and women who have served their nation as Soldiers. The Center's mission is to educate a broad audience on the heritage of the Army by acquiring, preserving and making available historical records, materials and artifacts. A unique Army and public asset, the USAHEC is the Army’s only historical organization chartered to acquire and preserve the personal history of our Soldiers through their photos, letters, diaries and artifacts. USAHEC staff then makes these resources available to the public through accessible archives, engaging education programs, and world-class interpretive displays. |
