The Board of Directors of the Army Heritage Center Foundation is pleased to announce that it will honor BG (R) Jim Herbert and COL (R) Bob Black at its 4th Annual Membership Dinner on September 30, 2011 as Living Legends for their service. BG Herbert was commissioned in 1945 and commanded the 8th Ranger Infantry Company (Airborne) from October 1950 until wounded in April 1951. His efforts and those of his fellow Rangers blunted an attack against the 21st Infantry Regiment of the 24th Infantry Division during a major Chinese Offensive. Herbert was wounded three times during the attack. Ranger Herbert continued his service with assignments in Vietnam and at Fort Bragg and retired after more than 30 years of service. BG Herbert is a member of the Ranger Hall of Fame. COL Bob Black also embodies the service of Army Rangers. He distinguished himself over a 30 year career and first saw ground combat as a sergeant in 8th Ranger Infantry Company in Korea. With service in Vietnam, Ranger Black wears a Combat Infantryman’s badge with a Star and is a member of the Ranger Hall of Fame. However, his efforts as a chronicler of Ranger history and his efforts on behalf of Army Rangers are in many ways as important as his service. He has not and will not allow Ranger contributions and legends to be forgotten. In addition to recognizing BG Herbert and COL Black, the Foundation will honor Mr. H. Ross Perot with the Boots on the Ground Award for his untiring efforts on behalf of Soldiers and their families. The Dinner will occur at the Radisson Hotel Harrisburg Hershey in Camp Hill at 6:00 p.m on September 30, 2011.
