Universal Health Services (UHS) of Pennsylvania, Inc., the Fortune 500 company that employs over 65,000 workers in health care facilities in 37 states, has donated $10,000 to support the Army Heritage Center Foundation’s educational programs.
The Foundation, the lead agency in the public/private partnership to develop and expand the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center (USAHEC) in Carlisle, PA, produces educational materials and programs to enhance education throughout the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and across the country as part of that mission.
The success of these programs has led the state to designate the Foundation as an Educational Improvement Organization under the Educational Improvement Tax Credit Program. This program enables companies like UHS to receive incentives for donating to designated organizations.
Foundation Education Director, Jeff Hawks says that the students are the real beneficiaries of UHS’s generosity. “We provide materials and programs to promote student achievement and help support the development of the next generation of business and community leaders,” says Hawks. “Nothing teaches critical thinking and discernment like good history education.”
The programs supported by Universal Health Service’s donations include an educational website, professional development for teachers, a Veteran’s oral history program for students, and the National History Day in Pennsylvania program.
“Forward-thinking corporations like Universal Health Services understand that education is the key to our nation’s future in terms of leadership and workforce development.” says Foundation Executive Director Mike Perry. “This donation represents a partnership and an understanding between corporations, schools, the Army Heritage Center Foundation, and the U.S. Army that has great benefits for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and the Nation as a whole.”
The Army Heritage Center Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit located in Carlisle, PA.
