APRIL 17, 2020 (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM) - THE ATOM BOMB IN WORLD WAR II

Guest speaker Dr. Conrad Crane, Chief of Historical Services at the U.S. Army Heritage and Education Center, will present an overview of the construction and use of the atomic bomb in World War II.  Teachers will explore primary sources and first hand accounts, and discuss options for their use in the classroom.  Act 48 credit is available.  Cost to attend:  $15.

SEPTEMBER 18, 2020 (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM) - NATIONAL HISTORY DAY IN PENNSYLVANIA

Special Guest Dr. Cathy Gorn, Executive Director of National History Day, Inc., will join NHD in PA State Coordinator Jeff Hawks to provide the latest updates about the NHD program, discuss strategies for engaging students and guiding them to success with the NHD program.  Sessions will include a review of the NHD judging standards with the goal of helping teachers understand how to help students meet expectations.  Cost to attend:  $15.

OCTOBER 23, 2020 (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM) - THE GULF WAR:  A 30 YEAR RETROSPECTIVE

30 years after the Gulf War and the liberation of Kuwait, this retrospective workshop will examine the experiences of the Soldiers who fought the war, and the underlying tensions and conflicts that lead to the war and continue to afflict the region.  The program will feature Desert Storm Veterans sharing their perspective, and special guest Dr. Larry Goodson, General Dwight D. Eisenhower Chair of National Security and Professor of Middle East Studies at the U.S. Army War College.  Cost to attend:  $15.

Pennsylvania Act 48 Professional Development Hours

Unless otherwise note, teachers may receive ACT 48 credit for attending professional development session.  To qualify, teachers must sign-in at the event, provide thier Professional Personnel Identification number, and pay all applicable registration fees.

Continuing Professional Education is important in Pennsylvania. Act 48 of 1999 requires all professional educators holding Pennsylvania public school certificates to participate in Continuing Professional Education. For more information about Act 48 please click here.
