Community art depicting Carlisle’s origin
Originally installed in 2001, Carlisle’s Historic Mural underwent significant revitalization in 2025, when artist Wayne Fettro created the version you see today. The project was funded by the Downtown Carlisle Association. The mural features local icons Molly Pitcher, Benjamin Rush (Dickinson College founder, Declaration signer), and Jim Thorpe (Olympic gold medalist).
Address: 49 West High Street, Carlisle, PA 17013
Access notes: The mural is outside and is easily accessible to visitors. Street parking is available. A parking garage is located at 42 West Pomfret Street. An outdoor parking lot is located at the Post Office.
Visitor Tips: You are now in the center of historic Carlisle’s downtown shopping district, within walking distance of many other stops on Patriots’ Path, including the Carlisle Liberty Bell Replica, Old Public Graveyard, the Dr. Benjamin Rush statue, Cumberland County Historical Society, the former home of Colonel Robert Magaw, which is now a Denim Coffee, and the First Presbyterian and St. John’s Churches.
