There is increasing focus on ethical & responsible AI, particularly in defense and security contexts. For example, many organizations (including the U.S. Department of Defense) now have principles for ethical & responsible use of AI. In this talk, Dr. David Danks will look carefully at the nature of “responsible AI,” with a particular focus on military uses. Dr. Danks will argue that we should focus on the processes and practices that we use to design, develop, and deploy AI-enabled systems, rather than fine-grained technical details of the systems themselves. Ethical AI is not about the 1s and 0s, but rather about the questions, methods, and approaches that we use to develop the AI.
