The Saratoga campaign was one of the most important episodes in American history. The British hoped their ambitious, yet fatally flawed strategy would finally lead to victory of the rebellious Americans in 1777. However, a combination of distance, geography, logistics, and an underestimation of American leadership and fighting ability, led to the loss of an army and what one American general called “the Compleat Victory”.
