Gavin at War: The World War II Diary of Lieutenant General James M. Gavin with Chloe Gavin Beatty and Colonel (Ret.) Keith Nightingale

Lieutenant General James Gavin is one of the best-known military leaders of WWII. Often referred to as “Jumpin’ Jim,” he began the war as the commander of the 505th Parachute Combat Team.  His unit spearheaded the American assault on Sicily in July 1943.  On D-Day, Gavin served as the Assistant Division Commander of the 82nd Airborne Division.  By the Fall of 1944, Gavin advanced to command the Division and by the end of the year commanded U.S. forces in Berlin. Throughout this time, he kept a wartime diary.

Chloe Gavin Beatty and COL(R) Keith Nightingale will bring to life LTG Gavin’s wartime experiences, discuss his leadership style and highlight his skills as a technical innovator and as a superb training of airborne Soldier.   Their conversation should cause the audience to think about how Gavin might advise leaders of Soldiers today.
