Description

The 464th CA AA Bn, attached to the 10th Air Force, became the first American ground-based combat unit in CBI in 1943. The history and exploits of this important unit are told here for the first time based entirely on newly declassified source documents and interviews with service survivors. Among the revelations of these documents is the story of a secret mission of this group to enter Burma in 1943, months ahead of “Merrill’s Marauders” who are widely credited with this distinction. The story of the 464th, a Separate Battalion, provides interesting new insight into the nature and prosecution of the war by the allies in the China-Burma-India theater.
